adidas x Gucci

The interplay of retro vibes and contemporary aesthetics

This year, the month June was brighter than ever with the launch of the adidas x Gucci sport-inspired streetwear collection by Alessandro Michele. The collection brought back the vintage 70s feel with a twist, merging the fashion house’s iconic GG monogram with interlocking G and adidas’ Three Stripes and Trefoil.

Collaborating with Gucci team, Draw A Dot founder Marcus Kan created an open call to champion fashion illustration and showcase artists’ interpretations of the collection.

What stood out to me the most was the seamless interplay of modernity and vintage colours and retro vibes. It was fun, bold, nostalgic whilst so in-the-moment and youthful. Given a variety of separate pieces, I had so much fun mixing and matching the outfits with other accessories ranging from the Gazelle sneakers, baseball hat to large duffle bag.

Drawing on my love for tennis and my ‘residual’ excitement following Roland Garros matches, my artwork portrayed a scene of a tennis practice session where the players were wearing adidas x Gucci outfits with their 70s inspired hairstyle. Ultimately, I wanted to resemble the spontaneous, unique, and bold yet playful attitude that these brands are known for. After all, it’s Gucci and adidas that we are talking about - Impossible is nothing!

It was such a wonderful surprise when my artwork was selected as one of the top 16 by the Gucci team and featured on their website! Please head to the official Gucci article for more artworks and details.
